A desire to work with the ‘best of the best’ has seen NZCCL build several commercial premises for its own subcontractors over the years.

Preco Concrete have supplied pre-cast concrete to significant infrastructure projects up and down the country for two decades. They handle everything from bridges to culverts, underpasses, sea walls and of course, commercial concrete tilt panels for NZCCL builds.

When Preco owner Brian Giffin had to move premises, he contacted NZCCL straight away to design and build a new pre-cast factory and yard in Tauriko, Tauranga.

The site spans 11,848m² and Preco required a large, enclosed building (1303m²) and separate office (265m²), leaving plenty of outdoor space for storage of materials and completed panels. It was important the office was physically separated to reduce the risk of potential damage during an earthquake, and NZCCL worked with local interior designer Tina Jones to create an inviting office space that staff would proudly look after for years to come.

The main building had to be large enough to fit 20 tonne gantry cranes inside, and careful thought had to be given to environmental measures to capture wastewater from the concrete products used during Preco’s manufacturing processes. NZCCL constructed extensive wash down areas, sumps and interceptors to comply with wastewater discharge regulations. The total project cost was $2.967 million.

NZCCL values the strong relationships we have built with subcontractors such as Preco over the years, and it was a privilege to help construct a first-class base for their business.

Although Preco’s owner, Brian, has been in the construction industry for 35 years, he says it can be difficult to understand where to start when building your own premises. “Having dealt with Bevan on numerous projects over the years, his size and ability to tailor a solution from architectural through to structural design meant our build was in good hands from the get-go,” he says.

“Bevan’s staff were very professional throughout the build and I would consider them to be friends – such was the care and consideration they provided throughout the build. This relationship now extends to new projects that we are working on with NZCCL.”

“One thing I have learned from building with Bevan is that he is interested in outcomes and has always put the end result ahead of everything.”
